The Northeastern Nevada Museum strives to be the premier cultural and historical center for preservation, research, and education in northeastern Nevada. The museum maintains a quality facility dedicated to serving the area and its visitors by providing comprehensive archives, diverse art and history exhibits, and a community gathering space.
Exhibits cover local culture and history, natural history, wildlife specimens from around the world displayed in natural settings, a permanent art collection, and rotating art exhibits. Research facilities include over 40,000 photos, area newspapers from 1869 to present, public records, manuscripts; and a 1,000-volume research library. The museum includes a gift shop and 90-seat with three stages plus a movie screen.
Western art, including a world class collection of Will James original art and books, an Ansel Adams portfolio, 200 animals from all over the planet, a huge gun collection, impressive history exhibits of the area, and a soon-to-be first class mining exhibit.
The late Nevada Governor Kenneth Guinn said, “This is the best museum in the state of Nevada.” The Northeastern Nevada Museum in Elko is a multi-faced experience.
